Global Business Mobility – Senior or Specialist Worker route and Graduate Trainee route

Senior or Specialist Worker route and Graduate Trainee route replace the Intra-Company Transfer route in force before 11 April 2022.

This route allows multinational organisations to facilitate temporary moves into the UK for key business personnel through their subsidiary branches to fill a specific vacancy that the UK’s settled workers cannot fill.

There are two Intra-Company routes which now come under the Global Business Mobility route :

  • Senior or Specialist Worker : this is for established employees who are being transferred by their overseas employer to do a skilled job for a linked employer in the UK.
  • Graduate Trainee: this is for employees taking part in a structured graduate training programme who are being transferred by their overseas employer to a linked employer in the UK

Requirements for Global Business Mobility – Specialist or Senior Worker 

To apply for a Specialist or Senior Worker Visa, you must demonstrate that:

  • You have a valid certificate of sponsorship reference number from an employer that is a licensed sponsor in the UK,
  • You have worked for the overseas employer for 12 months, unless applying as a high earner, with a gross annual salary of £73,900 or more,
  • You will be doing a job in the UK at the required skill level – RQF 6 (graduate level equivalent),
  • The job meets the general salary threshold of £42,400, and the going rate for the job,
  • You meet the financial requirement if applying for entry clearance or been in the UK for less than one year,
  • You will obtain Academic Approval Technology Scheme (ATAS) certificate if working in a job in sensitive subject areas, and
  • You do not fall for refusal under the general grounds for refusal.

Length of Visa

You can stay in the UK for a total of 5 years in any 6 years period unless you are a high earner, in which case the maximum period of stay is a total of 9 years in any 10-year period.

Extension Application

If you are in the UK with permission on the Senior or Specialist Worker route, you can apply to extend your stay if you meet the relevant requirements – this could be to continue in the same employment or to change employer or employment.

Switching

If you are in the UK on another immigration route, you can switch to the Senior or Specialist routes if you meet all the relevant immigration requirements and were not last granted permission as Visitor, Short-term student, Parent of a Child Student, Seasonal Worker, Domestic Worker in a Private Household and outside the Immigration Rules.

Global Business Mobility – Graduate Trainee

This route is for trainees taking part in a structured graduate training programme with clearly defined progression towards a managerial or specialist role within the employer organisation, whom the overseas employer is transferring to a role in the UK entity.

Requirements

To apply for Graduate Trainee Visa, you must demonstrate that:

  • You have a valid certificate of sponsorship reference number from an employer that is a licensed sponsor in the UK,
  • The job you are planning to do is at the required skill level – RQF 6 (graduate level equivalent),
  • The job meets the general salary threshold of £23,100, and either 70% of the going rate for the job listed in Table 1 or 100% of the going rate for the job listed in Table 2 of the Appendix Skilled Occupations,
  • You have worked for overseas employer for a continuous period of at least 3 months immediately before the date of your application,
  • You meet the financial requirement if applying for entry clearance or been in the UK for less than one year,
  • You will obtain Academic Approval Technology Scheme (ATAS) certificate if working in a job in sensitive subject areas, and
  • You do not fall for refusal under the general grounds for refusal.

Length of Visa

As a Graduate Trainee, you can stay in the UK for a total of 5 years in any 6-year period. However, one year is the maximum period that can be granted at any one time.

Extension

You cannot extend a Graduate Trainee Visa from inside the UK.

 Family members

A dependent partner and dependent children can apply to come to the UK on these routes.

Settlement 

The Global Business Mobility routes are not routes to settlement, and permission in these routes will not count towards the qualifying period of stay required to settle, should an applicant later apply to settle under another route.

Fees

Our fixed fees for individual Global Business Mobility – Senior or Specialist Worker and Graduate Trainee Visa applications range from £1850 to £2550 plus VAT and disbursements. Disbursements typically include Home Office / Visa fees, Immigration Health Surcharge fees, Certificate of Sponsorship fees, Immigration skills charge, biometrics enrolment fees, optional premium appointments, translations, courier and postage etc.
